Profitable Strategies for CSR
Research about the social responsibilities of corporations has been going on in the United States and in Europe for the past 30 years, but it is not until recently that it has become a hot topic of public debate in Sweden. The aspiration of this paper is to capture the scope of this debate and is therefore aimed at academics and business leaders as well as politicians.Academics have historically argued for the moral responsibilities of corporations towards society. Irrespective of where one stands in this academic debate it is clear that business leaders have by and large dismissed these arguments. Nevertheless, one can see nowadays that more people are talking about the “business case” for Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR). In other words, corporations should engage in CSR because it can be profitable.
